Rhône – Alpes

Beautiful region between the Alps and Provence

The Rhône – Alpes region borders Switzerland to the east and Provence to the south.
A part of the Alps is located on French territory. Rhône – Alpes is one of the most prosperous regions in Europe,
the beautiful nature and the popularity among holidaymakers are certainly to thank for this.

Haut - Savoie, holiday in the French Alps

The Haut – Savoie, one of the departments in the Rhône – Alpes region, is located in the heart of the French Alps. This department has two well-known lakes; Lake Annecy and Lake Geneva. All kinds of water sports are practiced on these lakes. Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Western Europe, is also located in the Haut – Savoie department. This mountain gives you a beautiful view over the Chamonix countryside. This famous town is well worth a visit but so are: Geneva, Thonon-les-bains, Annecy and the medieval village of Yvoire. In the region there is a lot to do, such as visiting the Fantasticable in Châtel, a recommendation for both the summer and winter.

The French Alps in the summer

During the summer, the area is very popular for holidaymakers. The area is ideal for enjoying beautiful walks through the mountains. Cycling is also very popular along ATB routes. There are multiple chairlifts which take you high into the mountains. Drive over the mountain roads known as "Cols", explore the picturesque mountain villages and enjoy the beautiful surroundings from a terrace.

The French Alps during the winter

The largest ski resort in Europe, Portes du Soleil, is located in the French Alps. All forms of winter sports are possible here; skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and sledging. There is 650km of slopes and many cable cars to take you to the top of the slopes. In this area there are 12 villages connected by slopes and cable cars, for example Avoriaz, Les  Gets, Morzine and Châtel.
