Sporty activities during the holidays

There are plenty of options for sports in the Castellane area. You can hike or climb mountains. If you prefer cycling, you can go cycling or mountain biking. You can also practise all kinds of water sports on the various recreational lakes, in the Gorges du Verdon or by the Mediterranean Sea. Cycling

Provence is a wonderful region for cycling. You can make trips from the park, but you can also choose to drive a bit first by car and start cycling from there. In the larger villages you can rent a bike, but many holidaymakers like to take their own bicycle. The terrain  is fairly flat by the coast and the lavender fields.

Horse Riding in the Parc du Verdon

Haute Provence is an excellent area for horse riding. The area is very varied. Whether you want to ride on flat terrain, hilly terrain or on mountain trails, all is possible here. There are several stables in the region from where you can go horse riding.

Mountain biking from Castellane

Mountain biking takes you to places you would normally not go to, such as high up in the mountains where the terrain is often difficult. This often provides the most spectacular views of the mountains and valleys. So when mountain biking, be sure to regularly stop and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Parasailing

Instead of going down with a parachute, go up.  The parachute is attached to a speedboat which goes at high speed and will lift you into the air.

Parachute jumping

Are you a daredevil? go for it and go parachute jumping! Enjoy the scenery of Haute Provence from a high altitude. Weather permitting, you will see the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains of the Alps. Calmly float down while enjoying the magnificent views. Cycling over mountain passes

Prefer to stay on the road but are you still looking for a challenge? Bring your race bike and go on a mountain ride. In Haute Provence, you can take beautiful tours from Castellane over several mountain passes. You can cycle alone, but  it is more enjoyable and sociable to do it with a group.

Walking

Take a walking tour of the area, together or with the family and discover the varied surroundings. Rugged rocks, steep gorges, rolling hills, dense forests and vast valleys with picturesque villages, France has it all. Check in advance whether the route is feasible for everyone and bring enough water.

Snorkeling and diving

Provence also has stunning water life. Go snorkeling or diving in the Mediterranean Sea. You can enter the water from the shore or first sail out a bit with a boat.

Quad biking

Want to see a bit more of the area without putting in too much effort? Hire a quad bike. You will be able to ride through places you normally wouldn't go to such as riding through; forests, vineyards and unspoilt nature. There are several places in the area where you can rent a quad bike.

Mountain climbing

There are also plenty of opportunities to climb mountains in Provence.Be sure to go under the guidance of qualified instructors when attempting this ascent.

Climbing the Roc of Castellane

High above the village of Castellane there is an enormous rock. A small church has been built on top of the rock. Climb the rock and visit the little church. Many consider this a small pilgrimage. From this high point, you have a beautiful view of the wide surroundings.

Bungee jumping

Jump from one of the highest bridges in Europe. The Pont l'Artuby in Trigance lies about 180m above the bottom of the gorge in the Gorges du Verdon. For true daredevils, this jump is a special experience that requires nerves of steel.
