Sarlat - Dordogne

When you visit the Dordogne region, Sarlat is a must-see. This is the uncontested pearl of Perigord and is definitely worth a visit.

History of Sarlat

The town Sarlat, and the entire Dordogne region, was known for a brief period of prosperity and fortune in the early Middle Ages. Subsequently, it has been a low-key town for centuries. There was no interest to modernize or invest in this region. Consequently, the Dordogne has remained in its authentic form, and that is exactly why it is such an attractive and popular region among tourists.

Shopping in Sarlat

Sarlat, a 45-minute drive away from your holiday home, is also the location of the shopping mall for the entire region. All national supermarkets can be found here. You can also discover many great shops with regional products, delicacies, and antique shops. The street is filled with art and artisanal. The countless restaurants and cafés with street-level terraces make this a very pleasant town.

Festivals and markets

In July and August, Sarlat plays host to the theater festival. These are busy months, especially on Saturdays when the market is in town. You can avoid the hustle by visiting the town early in the morning when locals dominate the street – the street next to city hall provides access to a genuine farmers’ market.
