Sunflowers, lavender, wine and a beautiful varied coastline are just a few of the features that Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur is known for.

In total, this region has an area of 31,400 square kilometers. It is impossible to explore the whole region during your holiday. That is why we set up five activities that you must have seen or done. Are you going on a voyage of discovery?

Gorges du Verdon

The Gorges du Verdon is certainly the number 1 spot. This is the best-known and the second largest gap in Europe. The gorge is also called Grand Canyon of France. The 25 km long river Verdon flows through the gorge and ends at the Lac de Sainte-Croix reservoir. Staying here for a day is not enough. There is so much to see and do in this area loved by nature lovers and mountaineers. What can you do around the gap? Rent a canoe or kayak along the river and enjoy the impressive rock formations. On Tuesdays and Fridays, water from the lake Lac de Sainte Croix is released in the gorge, allowing rafting and canyoning. Or walk on the famous Martel Trail and view the view from various viewpoints such as Balcon de la Mescla. The most impressive part is located between the villages Moustiers St. Marie and Castellane. In certain parts, the gap here is only six meters wide.

Lac de Castillon and Castellane

This lake with clear green-blue water is located in the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. There are numerous water sports activities on this lake. You can go swimming, canoeing, pedal boating, rowing or a boat trip with a motor or sailing boat. A visit to this lake can be combined with culture sniffing in Castellane. This is an old fortified city where you can admire many remains from Roman times. Twice a week you can buy typical regional products and herbs here on the Provencal market.

Grasse: world capital of the perfume

Always wanted to visit a French perfume house? This is your chance. Galimard, Moulinard and Fragonard are located about an hour and a half away from our holiday parks in Provence in the city of Grasse. The French perfume industry plays an important role in the history of this place. In the perfume houses you can get a tour and inexpensively buy a delicious perfume.

Calanques at Cassis

There are breathtaking calanques between Marseilles and Cassis. These are rock formations rising up perpendicular from the sea. They are also called the Mediterranean fjords. Some such as Calanque d'En Veau and Calanque de Sugiton are so beautiful, you just have to see them. Do not forget to bring water, sunscreen, headgear and good shoes if you want to visit the calanques in the summer months. You can walk or cool down in or near the water at the many pebble beaches. You can combine such a day with a visit to the characteristic seaside resort of Cassis or the global coastal city of Marseille.

Lavender Corso Dignes-les-Bains

From 3 to 7 August, the Lavender Corso takes place in Digne-les Bains. This corso is held in honor of the lavender. There are parades both during the day and in the evening.
