During your holiday you should spend a day visiting a beautiful city or village. In the Portes du Soleil region there are plenty of villages worth visiting.

Yvoire

The town of Yvoire lies on the shores of Lake Geneva. It is one of the "plus beaux villages de France". When you wander through the town with narrow streets and half-timbered houses it seems as if time has stood still here, and you are back in the Middle Ages. Chamonix

Chamonix is located at the foot of Mont Blanc. It is a touristic place with many restaurants, terraces and shops that have set shop in wooden chalets with beautiful flowers. Take the cable car up the mountain and hike along Europe's highest mountain whilst you enjoy the spectacular views. Chamonix is not only pleasantly busy during the summer, but it is also a popular place during the winter seen as the area has several slopes.

Évian-les-Bains

Évian-les-Bains , like Yvoire, is located on Lake Geneva. The name of this village is world famous thanks to the mountain water brand Evian which comes from here. Thonon-les-Bains

One of the most popular towns on Lake Geneva is Thonon-les-Bains. In the village there are shops, restaurants and plenty of opportunities for a fun night out. Just like Évian-les-Bains, this village also has a hot spring. In Thonon you can practice various water sports such as swimming, sailing, rowing, surfing and boat trips. Must-visits in the village are the Église St. Hippolyte, the Château des Comtes and Château de Ripaille.

Avoriaz

Avoriaz is a popular winter sports resort. It is one of the twelve ski resorts in the Portes du Soleil and is similar to Abondance which is where FranceComfort – AlpChalets Portes du Soleil is located. Avoriaz is a car-free village. During the summer, Avoriaz looks completely different and is popular among hikers. You can take the chairlift to Les Hautforts which is located at 2464m altitude, the Pointe de Chavanette at 2216m or the Pointe de Fornet at 2298m.

Morzine

Morzine is one of most visited places in the Portes du Soleil by tourists who come during both the summer and winter. There are loads of opportunities for a fun night out.  Morzine is located at a crossroads of six valleys. During the summer you can go hiking and in the winter, it is a popular winter sports resort. If you are staying in the area, be sure to go to the Lac de Montriond which lies at 1049m altitude and visit the waterfall of Ardent.

Annecy

One of the larger towns in the region is Annecy and is located on the north side of Lake Annecy. It is one of the most beautiful places in the Alps and worth visiting during your holiday in France. The medieval center with covered streets, canals and bridges full of flowering plants, is what makes Annecy so beautiful. Château d'Annecy, is a museum, located above the town. Palais de l'Isle is located in the Thiou Canal and used to be a prison.
